she listened intently, this daughter of Abraham
humble peasant girl of Nazareth
royal blood coursing through her veins
she with open heart
and eyes of faith dazzling
in the light of the bright morning star
“Hail favored one! The Lord is with you!” (1)
yes, the God who set the stars in their places!
Mary, God’s chosen tabernacle of Love Incarnate
did not fear, but believed
in the light of the bright morning star
ancient prophecy was thus fulfilled
at the moment of affirmation
to the glorious annunciation
“May it be done to me according to Your Word,” she professed
taking her place in God’s plan to redeem the world
what great faith shown by this handmaid of the Lord, as she knelt
in the light of the bright morning star
“For nothing will be impossible with God.” (2)

soon gracing Elizabeth’s door

and the two embraced
in the light of the bright morning star
twilight of the day gave way to night
thoughts of divine fulfillment lulled her peacefully to sleep
dreaming of her babe to be
Jesus, Israel’s long awaited Messiah
redemption of Jerusalem
cradled in her arms
in the light of the bright morning star
all creation heralded His arrival
birthed by this young Jewish girl of the house of David
as she professed, “May it be done to me according to Your Word.”
Israel received the Promise
as Mary knelt
in the light of the bright morning star
