Hanging blackness o’er the land.
Yet when God spoke in majesty,
Light burst forth at His command.
Along with light came clouds and sky,
Also creatures great and small;
Then man, formed gently to behold
The wondrous sight of it all.
Glorious beauty all around,
And men given eyes to see;
Circle divine in blessing drawn,
Heav’n to earth, so it would be.
That world of loveliness remains,
For all who will look with care;
To see the special touch of God,
In starry nights and sunsets rare.
To miss the trees and grasses green,
Fail to glimpse bright blooms of red,
Is to lose the gift of vision,
Life’s revealing words unsaid.
In ocean waves and shores of sand,
Mountain peaks and valleys low,
Are painted views of nature's voice,
Joys to set the soul aglow.
So let men leave their busyness,
Come apart and rest awhile,
Gaze at robins, or geese in flight,
Watch a happy baby smile.
May the world drink in the beauty,
Take it daily, gratefully,
Glad to be in such surroundings.
Ever thankful, blest to see.
