Steadily love’s hands worked
While all around
Mournful cries filled skies
That should only hold
The sounds of joy
And laughter
And bubbling hope
Birthed to greet the morn.
Instead
The promise of pain
And fear
And death
Propelled each ceaseless movement
Of blood-stained hands
As reed after reed
Biting deeply into flesh
Wove snuggly together
Until a vessel of hope
Rested along the Nile’s edge
And a mother’s heart
Though broken
Breathed a prayer.
”Good journey, Son,”
whisper borne
winged its way
to the Eternal’s heart
as upon Egypt’s Nile
all hope now rested
in a basket
life-filled ...
“Good journey
Go with God.”
Buoyed the vessel
Down the waters of the Nile
Into the very courts
Of Pharaoh’s world
“Good journey -
Go with God”
Remained the blanket
Round this life
So snuggly wrapped
Through opulent courts
Gold filled
Jewel incrusted
Into desert wastelands
Bearing scorching sand
And piercing thorns
And countless lambs
Promising hope
Love’s blanket
Never left the heart
That winged its prayer
Nor the life
That knew
Its comforting touch
Each step
Toward the Promised Land
Walked in
“Good journey – go with God”
Until the day
Life entered in.
Other hands
Wove another vessel
As Love
Pierced and bloodied
Prepared Life’s vessel
And set me upon
The Living Waters
Birthed in promise sure
“Good journey – Go with God”
Where into Royal courtyards
Now my home
Are entered safely and secure.
