To this I must agree
Through history battles have been fought
With no real victory
True for a time it seems to be
The victor wins the spoils
As time goes on the victor falls
Despite his army’s toils
And yet in history generals live
Regaled for battles fought
Long after death we view their path
Their ageless wisdom sought
A written treatise well thought through
May last the tests of time
Expressing well the author’s view
When clear or else in rhyme
Through works as this the author true
Can too gain history’s fame
Remembered as the years go by
A true immortal claim
His work though can have longer reach
Its impact through the years
Can change societies yet unborn
Without the widow’s tears
In writing we can seek out truth
And search for dreams long lost
Even learn of battles old
Recount their grisly cost
But time will even wear out pens
Down to a useless nubs
As writings come and writings go
And time’s eraser rubs
The meaning’s lost the stanzas pale
The prose becomes a task
Soon only scholars read the words
And in their wisdom bask
But some words pass beyond this trap
Beyond the reach of time
They grow in power every day
An upward glorious climb
No author claims the glory here
The words are shared by all
They talk of plans and battles fought
From long before the Fall
And though they are a written word
Their power does not lie there
It lies behind the paper prints
It’s wisdom free to share
The pen is mightier than the sword
The text sharper than steel
But if its power is thought and truth
Then that is all we’ll feel
The Bible is the Word of God
Than words it’s mightier still
Because behind it is God’s love
His life, His plan, His will
In the beginning was the Word
And then the Word was Flesh
The Word then hung upon a tree
Our souls with God to mesh
The Word abides with mankind still
Behind the words we read
It tells us how God sent His Son
Our souls from death He freed
So what is mightier than the pen
And bests all feats of arms
What watches over us night and day
And guards from Satan’s harms
The answer is clear to all who seek
Its power cannot be hid
It is the Word, the Son of God
To Him our lives are bid
And on that Glorious day to come
When the Word in flesh I see
I will not care for the text I wrote
But for the Word in me
