Bartimaeus sat in the dust of the roadside beside the Wadi Quelt. Only a few stragglers rushed past now, hurrying to Jerusalem for Passover. Searching beneath the overhanging limbs of the Basalm tree he groped for his lost pottery.
“Perez, do you see my alms cup?”
“Forget it, Bart. You don’t need it.”
“I want it, though. It will remind me that Jesus gave me my sight – not that I will ever forget.”
“Come. Let’s go to your house and get your things. Father said we must not tarry. He wants us to go with him.”
“I know I must hurry, but how can I? Look! What do you call that?” Bartimaeus stood shielding his eyes with one hand and gesturing with a sun-browned finger toward the sky.
“Are you pointing at the white clouds?”
“They have two names?
“White is their color. Clouds are what they are called. Sometimes, when it rains, they are gray or even black.”
“Perez, what you are talking about. Do you think I will ever figure it out?”
“Sure Bart. You can’t learn everything in two days. How can a person blind from birth understand color? I will teach you the different colors and the names of everything you see.”
“Some things I know by their smell or sound, or by touching or tasting them. Those large things, what did you call them? – Date Palms. They are so tall. I had only felt their trunks before. And the green of those olive groves you showed me. They were beautiful to behold, loaded with their ripening fruit.
“Perez, I could not believe it when you came outside calling my name and said your father wanted to hire me. I thought you were playing a trick on me. Many have done that. I have never had a job. Your father is a good man.”
“It surprised me too. While we were eating, they were talking and my father became a follower. So did everyone in my family before the meal was over. Someone told him about your miracle and he knew you would need work. That is why he sent me to find you. He wants to make amends with people he has wronged.”
“Praise be to Jesus and Zacchaeus, and to you Perez, my new friend. After we get my stuff, can we go to Jerusalem? I want to see the Temple. No one can deny me entrance now.”
“Let’s ask my father to go with us.”

Jesus would never pass through Jericho again. Bartimaeus and Zacchaeus rejoice because the Savior did not pass them by. The snow-white color of salvation is the most beautiful color there is.
