Then laughed through tears with such delight.
Her voice, soft as a kitten’s purr,
She studied me--I nuzzled her.
Dad, too, was at the birthing scene--
His skin tone looked a shade of green.
“A miracle--of that no doubt.”
His eyes were wet, he exhaled out.
They cradled me with tenderness,
I wrapped their fingers--my caress.
As days played tag following birth,
Their love told me that I had worth.
Mom’s whispered words and lullaby's
Quickly calmed my new-baby cries.
Dad held me like his old football
When exploring the yard that early Fall.
My curious eyes spied busy ants,
Then something happened in my pants.
Daddy wrinkled up his manly nose
At his arms length I now was posed.
Into the house he shouted, “Dear?”
“Where are you Hon--please come here.”
At arms length I still was held
All because he said I smelled.
Mommy smiled and shook her head,
She kissed us both before she said,
“Come, I’ll show you what to do,
With powder and wipes she’ll be like new.”
I squirmed atop the changing table--
Daddy, green again, looked unstable,
His pleading eyes begged relief
‘Till Mom took over with disbelief.
In many ways my Dad stood tall,
Just didn’t do diapers, that was all.
On this my parents would agree,
Their lives were changed when they had me.
