Swoosh, here comes another one. Whoa, what happened to him? “Hey where did you fly in from?” Standing before Justice, Andre straightened his rumpled clothes. Tinkling pieces of ice fell from his body but still clung to his wings, they always took longer to warm up. Hazards like this were just part of a ministering angel’s job.
“I came in from a northern assignment. Blizzard hit and the Carpenters were stuck on the side of the road. I was sent to minister to them until they could be rescued”
“Believers?”
“Yep, an easy assignment really.”
“Glad to here it was routine”
“Much better than last time.”
“Last time?”
Andre went on to describe the previous week’s ordeal. Winter assignments can be difficult. Not only is the agent dealing with humans, who are always unpredictable, but they also have to contend with the climate. Thankfully, they are briefed on upcoming weather changes allowing them to entered each assignment prepared. Snow, wind, and ice, it didn’t matter, if an angel was sent he had to go.
That was the case last week. It was typical winter weather, overcast, snowy and icy cold. Andre braved the blustery squall to minister in an average suburban home. The mood inside the house reflected the climate outside. Little conversation took place there, more like an icy tolerance of each family member. Crisis had shaken this family; rebellious teenagers seem to do that. Anger and disbelief frustrated the tired parents, they had no idea why this had happened or what to do. Sadly, they blamed the boy, each other, and even God. Instead of turning to the Father for support and wisdom, they were embittered toward the very One who had all the answers. Every effort Andre made to comfort the family was rejected; dejected he left the family steeping in their own choices.
“Sad really” Andre explained “winter was more than seasonal for them. It had taken up residency in their hearts.”
Andre left, leaving Justice alone with his thoughts. How could they choose to blame the Lord, instead of accepting the love He offered? This “free will” that the Creator had given them was an odd choice. Why would these humans choose, winter instead of spring? Why had they decided to stay in a season of dormancy instead of one that brings forth new life? Did they not understand that their winter choice broke the Father’s heart? Yet, he knew the Father knew what He was doing, he had no right to question His plan. I trust you Lord, my service is to you and you alone.
Swoosh, another agent had arrived. Andre readied for his report.
