“...Remember, the Mayan calendar, which predicted lunar eclipses thousands of years in advance, ends on December 21, 2012, marking a catastrophic change. Other cultures, the ancient Egyptians, Chinese, and Romans have all pointed to a major shift in the cycles of history for that same year. Even NASA and the Webbot have made predictions that 2012 will have great astronomical activity. This could well include the Planet X or Nibiru, which is on a 3600 year orbit, and is set to intersect Earth’s course. A collision of the two could mark the end of civilization as we know it...”
I hug the throw pillow tight to my chest as my mind races with the facts of the report which is still emanating from the television. How will we prepare in order to have a hope of survival? Should we build an underground shelter? Stockpile food? Build up cash or gold reserves? Terror and my chaotic plans relentlessly bombard my mind.
“Kara,” a voice calls to me from without my all-consuming panic. “Kara,” it repeats more earnestly.
My body is frozen with terror, only my eyes dare to look. I follow my husband’s form as he comes towards me. He gently extricates the remote from my rigid hands, clicks the TV off, and sits down beside me, wrapping his arms around my shivering frame. I never once take my eyes from his; willing this contact to make the horror go away.
“It’s going to be okay, Sweetie.”
My mind feels so confused, as if coming out of the deep stupor of sleep mixed proportionately with the horror of a nightmare. My body ripples with fear. How can we possibly be okay? We have just over three years to prepare for the end of the world.
“Kara, you’re not looking at this in the right way.” He pauses to try a new approach. “What do the first four words of the Bible say?”
His patient tone nudges the edge of my dread, yet I am too paralyzed to answer just yet. I try desperately to wrap my thinking around his question and what relevance it has to our coming doomsday? I close my eyes to concentrate.
“In the beginning God...”
“Right. And who created the earth, established the times and seasons, hung the stars, and created all life?”
I hesitated slightly, still unsure of the questioning, “G-God.”
“Yes. Isaiah says, “Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together. ” Tell me, who knows the past as well as controls the future?”
My breathing is beginning to slow slightly as I stay focused on my husband’s words, “God.”
“Right, Honey. Now, tell me what our future hope is.”
“Heaven, to live with God for eternity.” A spring of peace begins to trickle through my troubled mind.
“The end of the earth has been laid out in Bible prophecy and it is God who will be controlling those events. It will not be some random act of cosmic violence. Instead of focusing all our attention on this Planet X, we ought to be sharing the gospel with the lost, so they can escape a far greater scourge; an eternity in hell.”
The talons lessen their hold. I had forgotten my God is in control; all things are in His hand. Peace continues to melt my unease. My heart rate begins to return to normal, as I choose to put my trust in the One who is the Alpha and Omega; the beginning and the end.
