Anyway you slice it, whether it's "knew" or "lay" - the above scripture gives Man his first clue as to how to go about accomplishing God's command to populate the world. Of course Man's human tendency to be greedy kicked in, and if it hadn't been for the flood, our world would be more over-populated than it is today! We'd be wall-to-wall people from the North to the South Pole.
For over 7,000 years Father Time had nothing but 'time' on his hands, so naturally he KNEW Mother Earth, and she conceived, giving birth to many Nations. Some grew up to be good, responsible and peace loving Nations, while others became aggressive and bullied the others, causing war, strife and death, sometimes even annihilating some of the smaller and weaker siblings.
Lately, due to the policies of my home Nation, (which will remain nameless), I've longed to move to a more peaceful Nation, one that doesn't continually flex their muscles to show their power, or bully, brag and go to war at the drop of a hat. I've thought of quite a few quiet, peaceful places I'd like to live while awaiting my Lord's return.
Australia, for instance, comes to mind. I think of it as peaceful, serene and scenic. I've never been there, and all I know about it is what I've read in books or seen on TV or a Movie screen.
The people seem to be laid back, like they're walking on Easy Street, and their Leaders aren't intent on ruling the world, starting wars or occupying other fellow Nations. They seem to have a "live and let live" attitude and gets along well with their neighbors.
This beautiful continent that we affectionately refer to as "Down Under", has the cutest little Koala bears and little Joeys that are tucked away in their mother's pouch pockets. Yes, they do have crocodiles, but due to a very efficient pest controler named "Dundee" - I understand they've been able to keep them at bay.
Also, I like the attitude of their previous Prime Minister, John Howard, who stated that people were welcome to come and live in Aussie-Land, but that they were an English speaking country, and that's how they were going to remain. (Whereas in my unnamed Country, our leaders foolishly spend taxpayer dollars printing everything in two languages, and refuse to listen to the people who want English to remain our official language.)
There's another reason I believe that Australia is a great place to live; If you don't see people immigrating in droves to your country, you know they're happy where they are. Only the Australian Movie Stars and Singers come to my country; but they usually return to their homeland after their stint in my country is over...as a rule.
To me, THAT'S proof positive. They're happy where they are. I've lived and traveled all over my homeland, and have yet to see or meet an Australian that has moved here permanently. Visiting? Yes - but not to live forever.
Yes, the Aussies seem to be a quiet, good, kind, gracious, hard-working, peace loving and happy people! I often think...If only the stork had dropped me off 'Down Under' instead... I'd be living in paradise now, while my home in Heaven is being readied.
Just wishful thinking.
