Why are you angry? Why do you hate me? Becca thought as her mom yelled again.
“Why do I keep you? I should send you away like everyone says. I hate this life.”
But, mommy, I love you. In her silent and still world, Becca turned to the Only One Who could hear her.
Jesus, why does she hate me?
My little one, she does not hate you. Her anger has consumed her and she has lost the joy in her heart.
Will she get it back?
Wait.
Becca thought back to life before the illness. Two years ago, she was a normal six-year-old. Then, an unknown illness struck her body, rendering her unable to move or speak. The doctors could not explain this and suggested that Becca be put in a nursing home. Although her eyes stared as if unseeing, Becca was able to see and hear everything.
Soon after the illness, Becca’s father left. “It’s your fault, Debra. If you hadn’t had that abortion, this would never have happened.”
“How can you say that?”
“You’re the Christian. Remember the verse about sins continuing through all generations?”
“That’s out of context,” yelled Debra.
Ed angrily finished, “I’m outta here.”
Becca’s mom cried every day. Then the divorce papers arrived. “How could he do this?” she screamed at Becca. “He’s left the country. What now?”
Becca watched as Debra’s anger grew daily.
One day, Becca heard her mom say, “I’ve signed papers for you to go to the State Nursing Home. I can’t care for you anymore. I’ll visit you often.”
The bus whisked Becca away to her new home. Sadness and anger swept through her. Jesus, why? Will I ever see mom again?
Let anger not consume you. Your mother’s life will be impacted by something incredible, involving you and a cat.
My mom hates cats.
That’s what makes this a miracle.
Becca settled into loneliness at the Home. Nurses visited, but her mother didn’t. One day, someone arrived.
“Hi, I’m Pam, and this is MC. Do you like cats?”
Although Becca could not answer, Pam spoke to her. MC sat on her lap, purring contentedly.
A nurse said, “Becca can’t move or speak. The doctors say she will never change.”
Pam replied, “God has a reason. Becca, Jesus loves little children. Do you know Him?” During subsequent visits, Pam talked about Jesus and read from the Bible.
Jesus, I know you love me. Will I ever be able to tell anyone I know all about You?
Patience, my child.

Months later, a straggly cat appeared on Debra’s porch, meowing hungrily. “Stupid cat,” she muttered as the cat ran into the house. Debra put down milk and tuna. “Why, God, does everything go wrong for me? Will You help me?” She cried into the bedraggled cat’s fur. “What’s this? If found, call 555-4321.”
The cat’s owner arrived quickly. “MC,” she said as the cat leapt into her arms. “How I’ve missed you.” Thanking Debra and turning to leave, Pam stared at a picture. “Who’s that?”
“My daughter. She’s in a nursing home. Why do you ask?”
“I work at SNH.” An awkward silence ensued. “MC and I visit Becca regularly. When did you last see her?”
“Ten months ago when I put her there.”
Pam peered at Debra. “You need to visit, and bring her home.”
“I can’t bring her back. I’ve signed papers.”
“With God, nothing is impossible.”
“But Becca can’t move or speak. What kind of life can I give her?”
Pam replied, “doctors have been known to be wrong. I’ll be there at two tomorrow afternoon. Will you?”
The next day, Debra stood outside Becca’s room, release papers in her hand. Her mind was spinning at the doctor’s words.
Inside the room, a slurred voice said, “Bye, MC. Jesus loves you.”
“Becca?” Debra walked slowly into the room.
Becca moved her head slightly and smiled at her mom.
“How?” Debra asked Pam.
“She’s just like MC, my Miracle Cat. The vet said she was paralyzed after being hit by a car and I should put her to sleep. Instead, I took her home and nursed her to health. Just like Becca.”
Debra knelt in front of Becca. “Please don’t be angry with me.”
“Jesus said you would come,” Becca spoke slowly.
Debra could only say, “Praise God.”
