Amidst the muck and slop,
Resided Daisy Hog, nee Pig
With swine-mates Ham and Chop.
Now Daisy Hog once overheard
Some town folks’ conversation
‘Bout how pigs are malodorous
With need for air filtration.
Daisy wished to modify the
Olfactory perceptions
Of city slickers near her sty
And wipe out preconceptions.
And with this new capricious thought
‘Bout not assaulting noses,
Daisy had a keen desire
To smell like fragrant roses.
She hopped in Old McDaniel’s truck.
To make her visage clean,
She headed to a laundromat
To find a wash machine.
She saw her chance and jumped into
A washer with a sheet.
Added bleach enough to well-nigh
Pickle Hog’s pig feet.
Then in a dryer set to “high”
She tumbled and was shaken.
Daisy steamed in heat extreme --
It pert’ near fried her bacon.
Now clean as any Hog e’er was
Or ever hoped to be,
Daisy hoofed on over to
The town’s perfumery.
And with a newfound confidence
She posed as a consumer,
“I’d like to try your best cologne,”
She oinked to the perfumer.
The clerk looked straight in Hog’s pig eye,
Brought forth “Essence of Rose”,
Dabbed the scent high on the Hog
And some between her toes.
Daisy returned back to the farm
And greeted Ham and Chop.
Ham commenced a sneezing fit
From which he couldn’t stop.
‘Twas Daisy’s highfalutin’ scent
That started Ham a sneezin’.
Apparently an allergy
To roses was the reason.
Daisy perceived and finally chose
To end this masquerade.
And with each dip into the mud
Rose scent began to fade.
And as a sow that once was washed
To wallow had returned,
To be just who she was before --
This lesson, she had learned.
