“Oh, man, I think I could really enjoy it here,” he said in a throaty voice.
The receptionist turned to meet his gaze; suddenly he felt dirty. He could not read the look in her striking blue eyes as she responded briskly, “Please wait in this room and Mr. Jonahson will be with you shortly.”
“Man, I messed up with that babe, I just hope the boss is a good sport”, Louie started to think to himself, annoyed. Then, he caught a glimpse of himself in the huge mirror on the wall, and his attitude made a sharp turn-around. “You handsome devil,” he chuckled to the well-toned man with the tanned skin and dark, curly hair down to his shoulders. He grimaced, as he realized he didn’t recall the new black suit he was wearing, and noticed his hair was styled differently than normal.
He began to wonder: what business was this and for which job was he applying, anyway? He didn’t recall driving to this destination, and he had no clue how he got there.
His thoughts were shattered by the opening of the door. Louie noticed a handsome, yet burly, man with wavy hair, sporting a beard and moustache. “Hello, Louis,” said the man in a low voice, “I’m Peter Jonahson. Please – have a seat.” Peter carried with him a huge file, filled with papers.
Louie was shocked to notice that the file had his name on it. Instantly, he wasn’t so self-assured as he pulled up a chair and sat in it uneasily. “So, uh, what position do you have, here, Mr. Jonahson?”
“I screen prospective additions; I guess you could say I was given the keys to the organization quite some time ago,” Peter answered, as he rifled through the file. A frown crossed his brow; he looked at Louie and said, “I see that you accepted Christ as your Savior when you were a teenager. What happened?”
“Oh, THAT,” responded Louie. “Well, uh,” he stammered, “You see, I only did that to impress this hot chi - uh – this young lady, and I really didn’t mean it. That won’t affect my chances here, will it?”
Peter Jonahson looked grim: “I’m afraid it does, Louie.” Before Louie had a chance to respond, a blinding light shone through the mirror; Louie covered his eyes, as the light seemed as bright and burning as the sun. Peter continued, “You see, Louis DiPaolo, on the other side of that mirror is the President of the organization.”
Unexpectedly, the wall behind Louie gave way, and he noticed a multitude of people; he was surprised to see his Grandma Delagato, simply because she was dead for more than 15 years. He remembered how irritated he was when he would go to see her because all she talked about was how much Jesus loved him. Also, a huge screen appeared out of nowhere.
“I know you like certain types of movies, Louie,” said Peter, “however, the President will present a special movie, now. Welcome to ‘Your Life’.”
Louie became terrified as he realized that he was watching every event – great and small – from his own life, being played out for all to see. He tried to hide his face, as he saw every lie he told, every girl he took advantage of, every drug he ever took, every time he mocked those trying to share the love of Christ. He placed his hand to his mouth in horror as he watched the last moment of his life on earth; a prostitute was at his side, both snorting cocaine, when he had a heart attack and died.
Suddenly, the Lord spoke: “If you would have accepted my loving forgiveness, Louis DiPaolo, every wicked deed would have been deleted from the record of your life. But since you never accepted me, I cannot accept you here. I am truly sorry. Please exit by the door to the left.”
Louie started weeping uncontrollably, fell to his knees and screamed, “Oh, Lord, PLEASE let me in!” Louie was quickly escorted out of the room and shown to the land of outer darkness.
Abruptly, the door opened. The receptionist re-entered the room with a different person. “How nice to finally meet you! Please wait here, and Mr. Jonahson will see you soon”
