How many times have we not given assistance to the untidy person who walked up to our car while we sat at a red light and waited for it to change? Have we ever wondered whether or not we did the right thing, when we refused to give to the individual who came up to our car and asked if we could spare some change or even a dollar?
Sometimes we may have responded and sometimes we did not. And when the light turned green, we drove away without feeling any remorse for ignoring that beggar. Did we ever pause to think that maybe the person we had just refused to help was one of God’s angels in disguised? And if that is true, then God had put us to the test. What could be our harvest concerning that trial?
I realize that we live in dangerous times and we can never be too careful. It is also true that many swindlers take advantage of innocent people. But, does God accept our reason (s) for not helping the needy person on the street? Does God adjust or overlook the spiritual laws, which govern our behavior, in order to accommodate our circumstances? Or, when we are faced with a Good Samaritan type of choice should we just trust our Lord to protect us all the time in all situations?
Surely, we can testify to the countless times someone has reached out to us during our times of need. We are aware that our greatest help came when God sent His Son to not only save us, but also to demonstrate how all humanity ought to live and how we should treat each other.
Each of us has to make up our own mind as to how we are going to govern our self when we are faced with conditions that require us to respond. If we are in position to give aid to someone, it may be a good idea for us to evaluate our motive for making the decision to either assist or not assist the person who comes to us for a helping hand.
We must keep in mind that sometimes while we sit in our cars at a red light, the person who approaches us just might be a ministering angel from God without us knowing it.
