“What do You have planned for me today? Help me see what You see and do what You say.”
I slip my feet into the Sherpa lined house shoes and pull the fluffy, warm housecoat around my body and tie it closed. There are those sleeping on the concrete in a cardboard box.
I am grateful.
I walk through my house, opening the blinds to the world outside. Gratitude for this wonderful home spills into my thoughts. As a child living with my mother in two upstairs bedrooms, I could never have envisioned I would someday live like this.
I pull on my exercise clothes and head to the gym. For my age, my body is in great shape. There are those who can’t walk, can’t see, can’t climb in a car to go somewhere. And what a car it is; a fairly new Lexus, far more than I ever expected to drive. We didn’t have a car when I was growing up.
God has been so good to me.
Returning home, I reach for the refrigerator door. I have choices inside; what to have for breakfast. There are those who rummage through the Dumpster for their next meal. I’m so very grateful for this life I live. I remember the dark days when we had no food.
I am so blessed.
When I enter my bathroom, I feel like I’ve just been transported to a five-star hotel. The tub and separate shower are encased in a beautiful tile. There are those who have no place to bathe and their body and clothes stink.
How could I not be grateful?
My walk-in closet holds more than enough clothes for me. Multiple choices hang on the hangars and are in stacks on the shelves. Some folks have to go to the Mission to get their clothes. Others wear the same thing day after day, week after week.
Again, gratitude pours over me.
As I go through my day, I am so very aware of God’s blessing on my life. Only by His grace was I born in a country where I am free to go to church, to walk down the street without fear of being arrested, to sleep peacefully with no fear of being bombed. As a woman, I have rights not given to many others in countries where their culture cloisters the women behind walls, only there to do the bidding of men.
I am blessed
