Speak to each other with despairing hope,
Simulate intelligence, network connectiveness,
Programme disks of cultures,
Data entities in red and yellow, black and white
(“They are precious in his sight…”)
What does it mean? What does it mean?
“Quickly now,” the machines whir on,
“Save the human race!
The Horsemen of the Apocalypse…
They’re coming! They’re coming!!!
Reaping judgment on the sickness of the soul.
Look at the face of the clock:
Like a sieve, time is running out.”
“Kyrie eleison!”
CD Roms drone on:
“Their revolutions made of riots politik
Molecules in motion swirling,
Waiting for their Newton to come along.
Rules, Examples and Exhortations,
Neurons firing in the synapse
(Senators bickering in their chamber…)”
What does it mean? What DOES it mean?

“Save the human race!

Computerized intelligent mind searches
Through large wardrobe of bitter-sweet-nothings,
Physical objects made of meat,
Distended stomachs, extended hands, flatness of trajectory…
“If we can just do enough quadratic equations
We can train new babies to talk Basic Language
(bonding us together…)”
What does it mean? What DOES it mean???
“Quickly now,” the machines whir on,
“Save the human race!
The Horsemen of the Apocalypse…

Look at the face of the clock:

The monitor screen clears…
Now new patterns forming…
What sense is it making?
No easy answers to intelligent questions, this!
Symbol-manipulating device
Busies itself, busies itself, busies, busies itself –
Look – There!…A cross???…THE Cross!!!
“Lamb of God, you take away
the sin of the world.
Grant us your peace.”
