This road,
This road is long,
This road is steep.
I’m bowed,
This load,
It bends my back,
It makes me crack.
I’m slowed,
This mode,
This road.
But then His Light shines brightly from afar just now,
And rushing water gurgles from a stream.
I long to seek refreshment that awaits me there,
A place for weariness to fade as if a dream.
My feet,
My feet,
My feet slip up,
My feet trip up.
I bleat,
Repeat,
The pain is real,
I cannot heal.
Defeat,
Defeat,
I’m beat.
Perhaps it’s not quite time to enter Paradise,
But rather could it come to me on earth?
Could my heart stir with Mercy’s gifts of faith and hope,
So it might quicken in the form of a new birth?
Could weary feet then romp with joy on this old road,
If a new pulse drove a sweet dance of praise?
Would I find an echo full of promises,
That all along the Lord of Life foreknew my days?
My heart (my heart),
My heart (my heart),
My heart leaps high!
My heart can fly!
Take heart (take heart),
My heart (my heart),
As Light descends,
My soul to mend!
His heart (His heart),
His heart (His heart),
Imparts!
And so love’s hand compassionately rescues me,
As God’s own Spirit comes to offer rest,
The Lord takes all my self-defeating prophecies
And He restores my soul now rescued from the test.
