Is there a baby lying in the manger,
or the Bread of Life in a food trough?

Are those the same precious little hands now curled into balls
that will be pierced with hate filled spikes?

The eyes, so bright, following every movement
are they the eyes which pierce men’s souls?

Is the cute little nose the same which gives the breath of life?

Is it the same heart where true love had its birthplace
that is now beating in rhythm to a mother’s lullaby?

The unintelligible babbling, is it the same voice which brought light into being?

Is this the same mind, now clouded in mist,
the same which envisioned creation?

The man playing coo-chi-coo with the toes,
are on the feet that will carry the Good News?

Is this “innocent” little baby destined to receive God’s punishment for the vilest evil mankind can think or do?

Is this delivered child seen as one day delivering you?

Close the eyes, open the heart, understand.
Bend low, come close and kiss the face of God.

Great images, and a wonderful, powerful, much-needed message. Enjoyed this.

Very creative poem. We listen to the heart of Jesus as he looks into our heart. We remember the baby Jesus and we wonder and wonder at His little features and the miracles that He will perform for us. You did a marvellous job.
