God-less world
the way drivers
rush to work
cut each other off
in traffic
make hand signs
at each other
and curse
inside their
enclosed car
with the windows
up and the
air conditioner
running full blast
You’d think it is a
God-less world
the way some people
grab seats
on the subway
jostle each other
on the sidewalk
let the women
stand on the full
commuter buses
and no longer hold
doors, say thanks,
or perform any
sort of
random act of
kindness
They all seem too busy
too preoccupied
too self centered
as they go to work
in their big glass
corporate offices
or buildings, or
stores
You wouldn’t be entirely
wrong
nor would you be entirely
right
There’s the prayer group
that meets in the small
converted janitor’s room
in the basement of
the gleaming high rise
glass skinned corporate
office
The six or seven who meet there
hold hands and pray for each
other
their prayer list
the healings that are needed
their country
and all the peoples of the world
Then there are those that
hold hands and pray the
blessing over their food
in the big exclusive corporate
dining rooms
Then there are those working
in the small corporate office cubes
that say God bless you
over a sneeze, or I’ll pray for you
when a co-worker shares their problems
or when they give up sick or vacation time for
a suffering colleague or an unknown
fellow corporate worker
Unlike the God-less behavior
often demonstrated in public
to the delight of the devil
the God-filled behavior
is often demonstrated in public
almost apologetically
God lives in the corporate world
and is worshiped by the collective
within
of those
who allow the Christ
within
to shine forth
in their actions, behavior,
and in the opportunities to share and
pray
in public.
The other day
as I walked between a couple
of the big glass
corporate towers
I saw where the desk of a woman
in a small office cube
had been placed near a window
and could be seen from the walkway
Stuck on the side of her
metal desk
with magnets was a beautiful picture of
Christ on the cross
Now
she would probably
be asked to take the picture down
as
not allowed by corporate policy
but
I had found a Christian
so I went to introduce myself
see who else had spotted the
picture
stopped by
to introduce themselves
and—perhaps—
worship Him for a moment
together
or find a place where we all
could come in early
meet in some small basement
room and worship and pray
together before starting
our busy, involved, and crazy
work day
