Sonia left her prayer room more confused than she went in! She might as well go for a jog whilst she figured out how quietness and confidence will be her strength. With furrowed brows she changed into a navy with red stripes jogging suit.
Her trot developed into a fast pace run, as she ran she wondered if she could outrun what was going on in her mind. Fear. Doubt. Frustration. Salty perspiration break out on her forehead and flowed towards her eyes. She stopped running, cupped both knees and brushed back the damp sandy blonde tendril. Her loud heartbeat startled her but that was due to the fact that she had not ran at such high speed for a long time.
She tottered over to a nearby bench and slumped down. Her legs were steady but her mind stilled reeled from what she heard in her prayer room. She could smell her own fragrance a mixture of fresh sweat and sweet almond oil body lotion. She did not like what she heard but it was mainly because she did not get it!
Sonia was use to been independent and reliant on no one especially after disappointments from people who should have had her best interest at heart. She knew God loved her yet found it hard to let go. She felt exhausted as she had analysed the tortoise pace of her career transition too many times, the uncertainty, the mounting letters that cried out for a piece of her bank account. She was even more overwhelmed when God came up “quietness and confidence”.
Her breathing stabilised and her thoughts became clearer. She asked herself where her strength really came from. She had always prided herself in been disciplined and a high achiever so subconsciously she was use to doing her own thing without having to wait on anyone. She smiled because it dawned on her why she loved the song by Destiny Child ‘Independent Woman’ so much. Now her back is against the wall and obedience to God was the only way to come out on top.
She meditated how she could apply the scripture that burned in her soul. It’s all a matter of trust, yet she did not know how, or maybe she was to willing to fully trust. Been in control seemed safer than letting go. Excited shrieks from some children interrupted her thoughts so she turned at an angle . She watched in amazement as two curly redhead girls took it in turns to jump off a low wall and let their dad catch them. They did not look afraid they were confident that their dad would not let them fall they were having fun.
The light came on! God was her father and she did not have to be in turmoil about her career and drain her energy anymore. A sweet smile emerged on Sonia’s face as she now knew where her inner strength came from.
