Burt was going to spend the evening watching a baseball game. He sat down on the sofa, picked up the remote and pushed the on button but nothing happened. "Ah, that stupid remote!" He pressed it again, the screen stayed dark. The door rang; he threw the remote on the table and sprinted to the front door.

Burt peered out the door and saw a little girl. "Can I help you?"

The girl smiled. "Would you like to buy some Girl Scout cookies?"

Just then the smoke detector sounded. "Sorry, I have to go." Burt slammed the door, and ran out to the kitchen, as smoke poured out of his oven. He grabbed his oven mitts and yanked the pan out.

"Da gone it." Burt's veins bulged on his forehead as he hurled the pizza into the garbage.

He sauntered out to the living room and tried the remote again and growled. "Daaaa, that's right, the remote doesn't work. I must be an idiot."

He went back to the kitchen again to find some batteries in a drawer. He sat down and pressed the button again, nothing happened. "What was I thinking? I shouldn't have never bought a Zenith."

Then he picked up the phone and pushed a speed dial button. "Pizza factory."

"I want a Pepperoni and Sausage pizza" There was silence on the other end of the line.

"Hello, is there anybody there? Hello…Oh great the phone died."

He walked over and pressed the buttons on the TV. Finally the screen lit up. The announcer said "It's a home run…" Then the screen went to snow.

Burt clenched his teeth and his fists "Wonderful! The cable is out."

Burt was upset because he was missing the game. People in impoverished countries like Honduras would not understand why Burt is getting upset. In Honduras, there's no running water and in some parts of the country there is no electricity. They would love to have all those electrical gadgets.

These toys will not make you happy. I've heard that people say that poverty stricken countries like Honduras people are happy because their life is simple. When we die someday we will not be able to take our junk with us. As Christians, we should focus on the things that really matter like winning the lost.

Dear Jesus, please help us not to focus on things but on you. Help us to realize that it’s not the things of this world that are not important but you. In Jesus name, Amen.
