A father and son sat on the high coastal cliff, overlooking the ocean’s waves as they beat upon the jagged rocks far below. They watched seagulls float in the warmth of the evening breeze, as they drifted slowly on the updraft of the coastal winds. As the waves danced along the rocks below, the father pointed out the bobbing heads of seals, as they floated in the last rays of the sun's glistening light on the water.
The father slowly moved his hand along the current of the wind, as he pointed out wonders to his sons, who watched it all with such delight. He followed the sea birds with his eyes, as they rose and fell on the drifting wind. The child pointed far out beyond the waves, with a cry of wonderment as they watched the tail of a large whale flap against the water, as it dived to depths unknown.
His hand rested on the child’s shoulder, and he pointed out across the ocean, as the sun started its final decent into the waves on the horizon. The sky burst in dramatic displays of color; pink to violet, gold to the deepest of reds, against a backdrop of blues. From the palest light blue, to the deepest shade of the night sky. Slowly the sun dropped beyond the earth’s rim, and seemed to set the ocean ablaze with its fiery colors.
"That was beautiful, dad," the small child squealed with delight, "do it again!"
"Now, now, son," The father said with a short, soft laugh, "such beauty can only can only be seen once in a day, and sometimes, only once in a life time." As the stars winked alive in the night sky, the father slowly turned his child's wheelchair back up the ramp, as they headed home.
