disease, diabetes, obesity and many
other diseases. Candy, potato chips,
cookies fill us up temporarily but
leave us hungry and empty after a few
hours.
The same can be said for our
spiritual diet. Today, we as
Christians fill up our lives with
voice mail, e-mail, twitter, facebook,
television, magazine, tablets and MP
players. Instead of desiring the pure
Word of God we settle for the world's
empty junk food diet.
Only when we stop seeking the milk
of the Word and desire the meat of the
Word, can we experience a healthy
balanced diet. Only with the meat of
the Word can be grow and experience
fellowship with God.
We must take time to study the
Word of God and not just rely on
Sunday's sermon to get us through the
week. We need to consult various
versions of the Bible, use a
concordance or Bible dictionary to
understand Hebrew and Greek words, view
the passage in context, review the
history and background of the book
and chapter, check the geographical
location and seek out key verses and
words.
Finally, we should create a
summary of the content of the chapter
and apply the Scriptures to our daily
lives. Without discipline and desire
for the Word, we cannot move from a
junk food diet to one filled with the
power of God's Word. Let's grow up!
