“No, I’m not silly, Silly Sammi would declare, as she crossed her arms across her chest and pouted.
But Mama knew better. She knew better, because when she was Silly Sammi’s age, Mama, herself, was known to be silly!
_______________
One day, Mama brought Sammi to ballet practice, and sat in a folding chair to watch her dance. Twelve little girls, wearing pink leotards and black tights, jumped and hopped and twirled around the room until their teacher told them to stop.
“Girls, I want you to try to do this pose.” Mrs. Skipper demonstrated a graceful ballet position as her students watched in awe. Some of the bigger girls were able to copy the pose, but the younger ones were having a hard time and lost their balance. Plop. They fell to the floor.
“This is easy!” Silly Sammi was one of the smaller kids, but she was able to do the position the first time she tried it. After a few minutes, Silly Sammi was bored, and started doing goofy moves with her hands and legs.
“Look at me!” Silly Sammi did windmill spins with her arms as she marched in place. A few of the other girls joined in doing the funny dance. Silly Sammi began to march around the room, but changed motions to a half leap and half jumping jack move. Soon, all of the girls were joining in on the fun. Mrs. Skipper just stood there, shaking her head at the sight.
Giggles and chuckles bounced around with the pink swirls of girls as they danced across the room; that is, until Silly Sammi biggest leap caused her to knock into Mama’s chair.
Crash! Bang! Mama fell out of the chair and sprawled across the floor; her leg landing on Silly Sammi’s head.
The room became silent.
Everyone looked over at Mrs. Skipper, then down to Silly Sammi.
Mama started to giggle. Silly Sammi started to giggle. One by one, girly giggles picked up in tempo, until there was an eruption of belly laughs from everyone in the room. Even Mrs. Skipper!
______________
So you see, Silly Sammi inherited her silliness from her mama, but don’t let Mama hear you say such a thing; for she will fold her arms across her chest and declare with a pout “I am not silly!”
