TITLE: The Passing of Time | Previous Challenge Entry

“Good morning Marion, and how are you today? I sensed you laughing this morning, and I was wondering what set you off.”
“Oh Miriam, I was just thinking of all the things we got into when we were little.Come over for coffee, and we can reminisce together. Do you remember the time we were pillow fighting in the living room, and one of the pillows we were throwing accidentally hit the big lamp and broke it?”
“Marion, how could I ever forget that. We tried gluing it back together so Mama wouldn’t find out what we did. I thought we were toast that time. Do you remember what Mama did when she saw the lamp?”
“Oh, Miriam, I remember just like it was yesterday. Mama looked at that lamp shook her head and scolded us, and told Papa about the lamp, and he spanked us sending us to our room. I’ll never forget the punishment for breaking that ugly lamp.”
“Yes, that was the first of many spankings we received for all the mischief we got into. When we became teenagers Papa said spanking was inappropriate, but he found new ways of disciplining us.” Miriam said with a grimace.
“Remember the first time we sneaked out, and met our boyfriends? Papa and Mama caught us climbing in our window. We received a lecture about disobeying, and we were told what we did was not acceptable behavior for young ladies. Mama told us about the birds and the bees, and the things that could happen when we were with our boyfriends. We could only go to and from school, and we were grounded for a month. We sure learned our lesson.” Marion said chuckling.
“Do you remember when we went to college. Mama and Papa loved the Lord and raised us to love the Lord, and follow His teachings. We were on our own for the first time in our life, and the world was so enticing. We strayed from our upbringing, and became wild women. When Mama and Papa visited us, and saw how we were living, the hurt and disappointed look on their faces made us feel like hookers. Our hearts were broken when we realized how our actions had hurt them. We betrayed their trust in us, and we repented asking God’s forgiveness as well as theirs.” Miriam said through tears.
“So true sis. Do you remember Mama and Papa’ reactions when we told them we planned to have our weddings together? Mama cried and Papa looked stunned, and then he burst out laughing. Papa looked so handsome in his tux as he gave us each a big hug, and kiss on the cheek with tears in his eyes. We walked down the aisle that day with Papa in the middle. It was so beautiful. When the preacher pronounced us husbands, and wives Mama and Papa cheered louder then everybody else.” Marion said grinning from ear to ear.
“You know sis it doesn’t seem like it’s been 30 years since we got married. The older we get the faster time seems to fly. I can’t believe last year is gone and a new year has come. Darned, just think we’ll be 52 our birthdays, and our kids are grown with kids of their own. We my dear sister are getting older.” Miriam said with a frown.
We threw our heads back and laughed uproariously.
“Miriam, we aren’t getting older. We’re like fine wine. We are aging to perfection, and we’ll reach perfection when Christ calls us home.”
“Oh, Marion, I love the way you put things. Age is just a number, and if you think you are old then you are. It’s not the age that matters, but what you’ve done with it.”
“God has been so good to us these many years, and has blessed us beyond our wildest dreams. We married our high school sweethearts, and had children, grandchildren, and our parents are still with us. We couldn’t ask for anything more.” Miriam said beaming.
We hugged each other tightly and raised our voices to God in song singing “How Great Thou Art.”
