Topic: The Media (in any form) (11/11/10)
Drug Dealers. Murderers. Rapists. The re-education facility at Twin Peaks holds some of the world's most dangerous criminals, all locked indefinitely behind impenetrable concrete walls for the safety of the public. But the general public is unaware of a population of curious people also residing there, the Christians. For the sake of the truth I decided to go under cover and pose as a Christian in order to see what this facility was really like. What I witnessed shocked me to the core.

During the late 2020's, the Green Environmental Party (GEP) outlawed
Christianity and well as any other religion or sect which supported a monotheistic position under anti-hate crime and assimilation legislation.
Anyone caught reading a bible or praying is immediately arrested and brought in for 're-education'.
Slipping into the facility with my hidden nano-camera was easy, all I had to do was ask people where I could get a bible until I got apprehended, but getting the others trust me proved far more difficult an endeavour.

I did learn a few things though: The Christians were kept in a section of the facility by themselves, anyone caught praying in public is taken away, and no one, even the guards, was allowed to talk to the Christians.

One afternoon, after I had been held for about two weeks, a long man with fair hair and bright blue eyes approached me.

He said that if I wanted to meet the leader it could be arranged. I jumped at the opportunity.
Here is the transcript of that interview with a man I only know as Brother Thomas.

"Brother Thomas, thank you for meeting me and agreeing to do this interview."

"You're welcome."

"I must confess something: I'm not really a Christian, I just used the Christianity as a mask in order to get into this place."

"Oh, we've known that for a while now. No need to apologize. Even before the government outlawed Christianity, we've struggled with fake Christians."

"How did you know then? I felt my cover was very convincing."

"Let's just say we are experts at spotting fakes. Unfortunately through the years we've had far too much practice."

"How long have you been here, and have they been treating you well?"

"About ten years, and yes, they treat me okay."

"How did you get arrested?"

"Got busted attending underground church. They followed me home and arrested my entire family."

"What happened?"

"Last I heard they transferred Carol, my wife, to another facility up north. Our children, Jason and Tara, were too young for incarceration, so they gave them to two separate families, one gay and the other staunch atheist, to raise."

"You're imprisoned for your beliefs, and your family has been taken apart, does that make you angry?"

"Used to. Not any more though."

"Why not? Any normal man would be."

"I am not any normal man, but I miss my family. I pray and trust God will keep them safe. I know I will see them all again. Please can we talk about something else?"

"Why have they separated the Christians from the general population, was it for your safety?"

"Oh no. In the early days, we were all mixed in with general population. But too many of them became believers. Made the authorities nervous."

"So when and how do you get out?"

"Three ways: Turn you back on the truth. Turn into what they want you to be and you will soon be released. Or you can die then they can't hold you anymore."

"What's the third way?"

"Jesus is coming. He's coming real soon now. And when he does, there will be no need for places like this."

"Finally, I want to go back to the first question I asked and this time I want a answer, a real answer: How could you tell I wasn't a Christian?"

"Christians can only be distinguished by their love. Any fool can say anything. It won't help them one bit. What you do, now that's far more interesting. Are you willing to go out of our way to help someone else? Are you willing to make a personal sacrifice so that others can benefit? Are you willing to endure unbearable personal torment for what we believe? If you can't answer any of these questions then you're not saved. But man there is good news: If you're willing then you can soon be."

"What must I do to be saved?"

I loved how you covered the challenge. Some will dismiss the part about Christians being confined in the future but it is possible. Christianity is a threat to one world order. I enjoyed reading this very much.

Fascinating speculative fiction--I enjoyed this very much.

You had a few issues with switching tenses, and I thought the last sentence was a tad abrupt and stilted.

Nevertheless, this was a great commentary and cautionary tale, quite well done.

Very captivating story Colin. My first instinct when reading where the children were placed was --perhpas Christians should not have chiildren if that is their future. I struggle with fully trusting God with my kids and their welfare. Your story has allowed this to surface. God has used you and I thank you. I guess now He and I begin the dialogue of trust.
