living a lonely life;
a young shepherd boy
who later had much strife.
He had many brothers
and was the youngest son.
In his life time he had enemies
and was forced to run.
By day he enjoyed green pastures,
at night the moon and starry skies.
He praised the God of heaven
who created the sun to rise.
David knew God helped him
fight a lion and a bear.
He wasn’t afraid of a giant.
Goliath, you better beware!
At an early age he was chosen
to become Israel’s next king.
He worshipped his heavenly Father
the creator of everything.
King Saul was afraid of David.
He tried many times to kill him.
His situation seemed quite hopeless
and the outcome mighty grim.
When he sinned against God
he repented with many tears;
begged for God’s forgiveness,
thanked Him that He hears.
David wrote about His Lord,
glorified Him in song.
This was the Most High God
to whom he’d always belong.
