After some consideration, Ann decided it would be best to inquire among those she knew and trusted most-her family and friends.
“Mom, do you know what ‘snappy casual’ is?
“No honey, why?”
“Oh, just wondering…”
“Marie, have you heard of ‘snappy casual’?” Ann asked her mother-in-law.
“No, sorry.”
“Cathleen, what’s ‘snappy casual’?” She hoped her sister-in-law would know; they were headed to the same party.
“Nope, but I’m going to wear…” her list included items she wears everyday. “I don’t have the money to buy anything special.” She continued.
Ann could appreciate Cathleen’s response; they appeared to be in the same financial boat. Money and dreams were two of the predominant topics of conversation whenever they were together. Over the past six weeks or so, their new business venture had become the focal point. This sales/customer-service oriented business promised to resolve all other issues. They could retire their husbands; buy new homes, better cars, nicer clothes, while remaining full-time moms. WHAT A DREAM!
It didn’t matter how much Ann understood Cathleen’s position, though. She just could not accept it for herself. Dressing to impress was the thing that would get her ahead. Personality…? Cover that with the mask, it may not appeal!
Having completed her rounds with family, then friends, Ann understood one thing. No one was familiar with the latest dress code terminology.
Ann finally decided to risk her credibility, “Karen, what is ‘snappy casual’? She asked her sales director, the woman who extended the party invitation.
She smiled, “Snappy casual is casual, but snappy.”
“Thank you.” Ann was no closer to understanding than before. “I’ll come up with something.”
She went home, gave it more thought, when an idea produced itself…
Ann went into her closet, rifled through her clothes, and pulled out everything that had snaps. “If they can’t tell me what ‘snappy casual’ is, then I will dress snappy…” She thought aloud. After coordinating colors, and styles, then matching them with seasons, she assembled the perfect “snappy casual” outfit.
Later that evening, Ann and Cathleen entered the home of the party host. Cathleen, true to her word, wore the outfit she committed to.
Ann-impressed with her own style-sported a lime-green snap-front blouse, with jeweled snaps running single-file shoulder to wrist on each sleeve; creamy beige Capri’s with a snap-front closure, roll-up cuffs and a loop on each seam with snaps to keep the cuffs in place. Her outfit was accessorized beautifully with a creamy-beige derby cap embellished with snap-on appliqués- all in lime colored jeweled snaps; large snaps that she used to create earrings with several strings of beaded snaps dangling to her neck. She finished the outfit with creamy-beige strappy sandals adorned with tiny emerald snaps sewn on to the toe.
The animated comments and endless smiles Ann’s outfit roused among the women that night, encouraged her to give freedom to her personality and dress accordingly.

I enjoyed this read a great deal. It may have fizzled a bit at the end--something with more of a punch would be more in line with the tone of the rest of the story.
This is witty and fun.
I like the lighthearted humor in this. Thanks for sharing. :)
