As the telephone company evolved from the old stepper offices to fiber optics they, use today truly was an amazing venture. I worked for C. & P. before it was changed to Bell Atlantic and then to Verizon as it is known today. We went from pen and paper records to computer records and that was a very interesting time. Computers are amazing inventions but they are only as good as the programmers and if the programmers were a little behind the times, our computer gave us unimaginable grief. It was also very interesting for us older folks learning all about computers and how they worked. They were the way of the future and they would take care of all of the paper files cutting out the use of paper or so we were told. I still sit and laugh about a paperless environment that computer were suppose to create.
I have a love hate relationship with my telephone. After working around them for about 25 years and hearing them ring constantly, I do not like them at all. If I did not need my telephone, I definitely would not own one. I told my children that I was going to get a pay phone and put it outside the house when I retired. Telephones are wonderful inventions and they do help us immeasurably. Telephones do save lives. They are used to check pace makers to see if the pace makers are working properly. Although I do have a love hate relationship with them, I do depend on them. I love talking to my grandson although at three years of age, his vocabulary is limited but to hear him say I love you grandma warms my heart and makes me feel as if I am ten feet tall.
Telephones, along with all of the other ingenious inventions we have today are wonderful and I give God all the glory because he gave man these wonderful ideas. All good things come from the Father but man likes to take the credit. Well, that is my take on telephones. Thank you Lord for all the landline telephones, cell phone, picture phones and everything man now has.
