She felt His presence before she ever saw the light enter her kennel at the dog pound. It was Him, Jesus was here! Kneeling down beside her he wrapped His arms around her trembling and malnourished body, speaking softly.
“Have courage my loved one. The hardest part of you journey is over now. In a short time you will find a good home, and so will your babies. Rest now, and trust me.”
“Please, no more humans, they are so cruel! Please…. no more humans.”
“Trust me, the one I send you will be different. You’ll see, life can be good.”
“But, I’m so scared! Life hasn‘t been so good to me, or my babies.”
“Trust me, loved one. Life can be good.”
With tears in His eyes and softly stoking her dull coat. He cradled her gently as she drifted off to a fitful sleep, never letting go until the morning began to dawn.

Day after day, she saw dozens of people walking the rows of kennels looking for a new pet. She was terrified of them all. Do we have to go with the humans? Please… just take us with you!
“Trust me, life can be good.” was His only response as the weeks dragged on. The only comfort came when she saw her babies taken home by some people that genuinely seemed to love them. Please take care of them Jesus, and make sure they are always loved.

She was hiding in the far corner when she heard the soft voice of a woman. Slowly she got up and walked toward her. Looking up she met the eyes of the woman. She sensed something different in this human. Are you the one? A strange feeling began to stir in her heart, something she‘d never felt before. Is this what hope feels like?
The woman bent down and looked carefully at the trembling dog, then reached out a hand for her to sniff before she stroked her dull coat with a gentle touch. Cupping her chin she looked into big brown eyes, saying: “I don’t know how I‘ll pull it off girl, but I promise I will be back for you, and I will give you a good home!”
When the lady got up and left, the dog curled up in the corner of her kennel feeling lonely and sad. Once again His words echoed in her mind. I don’t understand why she left. Jesus, please help me to keep trusting you. I really do want to believe life can be good.
Barely two hours had passed when she heard another voice. It was the caretaker named Jules and he had a collar and leash. “Come on missy, we’ve got a wonderful surprise for you!” he said while slipping the collar around her neck. He led her to a large waiting room. The first thing she saw was the woman from earlier that day. She was smiling excitedly as she knelt down to the dog, “I told you I would be back! From now on you will be called Shiloh.” she said as she scooped the dog up in a wonderful hug. “Come on girl, let’s go home!” Home? You mean, you want me? You really want ME?

Six months later, Shiloh was curled up on the soft couch. Her journey had started out terribly, but its destination had taught her many things. She’d learned that some people really were good, and she knew what it felt like to truly be loved. Best of all was that Shiloh heard her human talking to Jesus all the time. She was glad her human knew him too.
Life really is good. with a soft sigh, she snuggled deeper into the cushion and drifted off in peaceful sleep. Gently stroking her healthy coat, Jesus whispered: “Yes, my loved one, life is good!”
*Shiloh means “the peaceful one”.
