After unfolding my wooden easel, I place a blank canvas on my stand. With my vivid imagination, each pencil stroke reproduces my mental image. Slowly, slowly a landscape appears on my canvas. This is a black and white scene with trees in the left corner, a cabin by the river and clouds in the sky. Everything I imagine is upon my canvas. Colorless and without details, my picture is not perfect.
Reaching into my bag, I retrieve several tubes of paint. “How about a brown cabin with tiny white windows?” I mutter. Squish, flop, thick and shiny brown paint lands on my painter’s pallet. With my thin brush in my right hand, my cabin transformation begins.
Next is the window. One strock, two strocks and three strocks, finally, my cabin has white windows. “Now, I need a stone chimney. Should I put it to the left or right side of my roof? Every cabin needs a door? In the middle, on the right side, on the left side, where will it go?” I mutter. Eventually, my cabin takes on a form that is distinctive and inviting.
I stand back and declare, “This is good!” Next, I focus on the trees. “Are the trees pine or deciduous? Is the season winter of fall?” I mumble. Eventually, a pine forest with overlades of red and yellow deciduous trees, frames my cabin. Some leaves slowly float on a crisp autumn breeze. There it is again - that image - an autumn stroll through the forest. With a nip in the air causing my breath to swirl like chimney smoke. This image is perfect for my autumn picture. With each brush strock a new image appears upon my canvas.
With two steps backward, I review my creation. “It is getting there. Next is my river. Should I have rapids or a smooth flowing current?” Somewhere within my imagination is my solution to this question. Strocks, strocks and more strocks, my question is answered.
After many changes, I step back to review my creation. There on my easel is the fulfillment of my imagination. Now, I say, “It is a perfect picture.”
