“Right through this door, my child.”
“But it’s locked and I don’t have the key.”
“Yes you do, my child.”
“Where? I don’t have any pockets on my white dress nor do I have a necklace in which to hang a key on.”
“Look inside you heart, my child.”
“For what! I can’t hide a key in there.”
“You can if it’s not a key, my child.”
“Okay, now you’re confusing me. Am I not looking for a key?”
“Yes, but it’s not the key you’re thinking of. The key which you’ll find in your heart is the key to forgiveness. Once you are able to truly forgive then the lock will open, my child.”
“Forgiveness, do you know how many people have hurt me in my life?”
“I do, my child.”
“And you want me to forgive each and everyone just to open one silly lock?”
“I do, my child.”
“But that will take forever!”
“Only if you want it to, my child.”
“You were there. You saw it all. How can you say it’ll take forever only if I want it to?”
“It’s really very simple, my child.”
“No. It’s not.”
“My child, I can not forgive you until you first have forgiven those in your life you fell have hurt you.”
“That’s it?”
“That’s it, my child.”
“Can I forgive them all at once? Or do I have to list all my hurts one by one?”
“All at once, if you choose, my child.”
“But wait! What if they don’t forgive me for taking so long in forgiving them?”
“It doesn’t work that way, all you need to do is first forgive them and then I can forgive you.”
The young lady sat down on one of the golden benches which were on either side of the door with the lock on it and thought awhile. She didn’t want to simply say she forgave those who hurt her. She wanted to feel it in her heart. More than that was the longing desire for her Lord to be able to forgive her.
“That’s it, my Lord!”
“What’s it, my child?”
“The deep hearted longing I feel for you to be able to forgive me. That must be how the people in my life fell about wanting my forgiveness.”
“You’re right, my child.”
“Lord, where’s the lock? It’s gone and I haven’t said that I forgave anyone.”
“Your heart told me so, my child. Shall we walk through the door now?”
