However, you don’t hear me singing the song, all you see are words. These are words which could only be transformed into musical sounds with the voice through the act of singing. Without the voice, these lyrics are just words. It is always fascinating to me that God made us into human beings with amazing features. We have the ability to transform words into sounds which ushers us into different realms when we hear them or join in the chorus.
We are like a music box which produces sounds when words are fed into it and turned on. It's like having cords and strings embedded right within us. We are often turned on by the hands of great moments to let out praise to the King. However, the potential of the music box is not being utilized to the fullest. The music box if continually turned on whether in good or bad times can enable us to affirm the words of Christ and grow in it. It can build others up (Ephesians 5:19) and break the chains (Acts 16:25) that binds us as it chants out war songs in battles unseen with the naked eye. It strengthens the souls and brings peace (Psalm 9:2) and above all bring glory to God by lifting His name above all else (Psalm 54:16; 63:7).
This music box is a powerful tool to draw men to Christ when the Lord is lifted. If turned on, it can transform our lives and the lives of the people around us, as we turn the words of God into songs. To see singing only as a “Sunday morning thing†is to ignore and downplay its power and benefits.
I see the greatness and beauty of God when I think about such a great gift we have. The thought of Him caused these words to flow out of me.
O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder
Consider all Thy hand had made
Then sings my soul
My saviour God to Thee
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
I then began to think of His goodness and faithfulness but my lips were eager to tell Him about it. So, I said to Him;
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father
There is no shadow of turning to Thee
Thou changest not
Thy compassion they fail not
As Thou has been
Thou forever will be
Great is Thy faithfulness
Praise continued to surge out of me so then I said to Him;
Now thank we all our God, with hearts and hands and voices,
Who wondrous things has done, in whom this world rejoices
All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given
The One eternal God whom Heaven and earth adore
To such great God, I offer all I am and have. Therefore, I set my mind and heart on Him and say to the Lord,
Take my life and let it be
Consecrated Lord to Thee,
Take my moments and my days
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
Take my hands and let them move
Take my silver and my gold
Take my will and make it Thine
Take my voice and let me sing
I know all you see are words but if you just feed these words into your music box we will truly be singing together. And our voices will be heard in Heaven.
Because we were created to worship God. A life of worship offered on His altar. A life that sings out the praise of God and the truth of His word through the voice of love. Someday our lives’ song will be played in Heaven but for now, let us sing to our God in Heaven.
