Every day he reads his Bible and enjoys his quiet time. Harry is thankful that he can see, hear and speak openly about his faith. For him, health is about faith, freedom, fellowship, family and friends. He thinks everyone everywhere wants to live long and happy lives. Many countries do not allow their people the freedom to choose. The World news is full of such stories.
A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being is the WHO definition. Harry knows of no one who is that healthy but some are pretty close. His best friend Timothy is not in perfect health but he enjoys his life and his family loves him. He is kind and bright and a straight ‘A” student in high school.
Loving God. They pray about many things. Their favorite parable is the lost sheep because they see each other as ‘God’s silly sheep.’ They share a love of music and in church, they often help lead the worship and what a joy that is!
Timothy was disabled from birth and yet he loves life so much. His legs are paralyzed. He uses his arms and mouth for daily functioning. He drives a handicap van, uses a wheelchair, sings baritone and does some outdoor gardening.
“Harry” his mother often says “you and Timothy make quite a twosome.” Best friends from childhood, their families share summer vacations and often camp together by the lakeside.
Health can be as simple as turning your ears to God's Words and keeping them in your heart; so says Solomon in Proverbs 4*.
So they do.
*My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words.
21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart;
22 for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body
God’s word.
