After I was diagnosed with a mental illness, there was a season in my life where I felt that God was hiding me away,Isaiah 45:3 (NKJV). In all reality I was not hidden away from God, but this was a time when God was exposing many things in my life. My hate and anger toward others and myself were just some of the things I needed to deal with. God will reveal our sins to us individually by His Holy Spirit. All in all we are accountable to the Holy Spirit - He is our accountability partner who will bring us all into the light of His grace and goodness. That grace does not give us license to keep on sinning though, Romans 6:1 (NKJV). If we are caught up in sin that means that we are keeping it alive in darkness. When we realize we are being swallowed up in darkness is when I believe we should bring in another brother or sister as an accountability partner. For me, God was able to change my heart and gave me love and peace as I gave my heart over to God in a fresh new way through His Spirit.
All sin festers and grows in the darkness. When we bring it to the light and deal with it in God’s way, we take the sin captive and demolish it, 2 Corinthians 10:4-6 (NKJV). As long as we keep our sins in the dark, the darkness of our soul will be in bondage. We have perverted the darkness for God created so much beauty in the night.
Temptation is not sin in and of itself, but we need to confess all sin to God first and foremost. As it says in Colossians chapter 3 verses 1-4, we are hid with Christ in God and should keep our minds on heavenly things with our focus being on Him alone.
God will give us a way to escape from our sin, and that is through Jesus our Lord that we have this power. If we walk in the Holy Spirit then, we will walk in victory. It’s when we walk in the flesh that it makes us prone to stumble and we start thinking that we can allow sin to stay in our hearts.
There are many times we have to walk through the darkness; Jesus is always there beside us. There is no need to be afraid, He has not given us a spirit of fear, but by His power he has given us faith to make it through the dark times in this life.
I remember as a kid playing hide and seek. We would designate one person who was “it,” and the rest of us would search to find the best hiding places. The first person to be found was the new seeker. Some times as Christians, we are hidden for a season, during that time we should be seeking God. Let us to linger closer to Your Presence for in that hiding place we can find a fortress and safety that the enemy will not attempt to trap us in the sins in the night. We cannot hide from God’s Spirit, even in the darkness. Rather, hide in Christ, the secret place of the Most High for through His mercy and grace we are kept completely in His loving care.
Father, let us linger closer to You for we desire Your Presence. Your wings hide us away and we can find our safety and fortress underneath them; that is one place where the enemy cannot penetrate or trap us in the sins of the night.
