Topic: Sweet to the Taste (08/23/12)
Sweet memories of childhood revive to capture my thoughts for a while. I remember those summer days, in grandma’s backyard. There were aromas of a wood fire, frying chicken, and flowers, in the air. I was standing at the grapevine, picking off ripe, purple balls filled with juice. My sister was next to me, showing off her skill at retrieving nectar from a honeysuckle flower. She delicately pulled on the base end of the flower and a little white filament came out. As she slowly pulled, she smiled at me and told me that this is the sweetest taste in the world. She stopped pulling, and there appeared a drop of clear liquid, clinging to the filament.

“Taste this!” My sister was grinning now. My five-year old tongue experienced a taste pleasure that marked my memory forever. We spent a long time, there at the grapevine, gorging ourselves on grapes and that wonderful honeysuckle nectar.

When I read God’s word, I compare it to that nectar. It is so pure, and gives me so much spiritual pleasure. Those scriptures are sweet to the taste when I am in hunger for comfort. Nothing compares to the satisfaction I receive. I have always imagined that the manna from heaven must have had the same taste as that honeysuckle nectar. Who knows?

This is a lovely testimonial. I've never tasted the nectar, straight from the flower, but I could picture it with your words. You did a grand job of stretching it out so that I could picture every detail of the sister "milking" the flower.

You may want to break the first paragraph into 2 or 3 shorter ones, especially with a story this short. I would have loved to see more of these two darling characters. Was the little sister perhaps a bit nervous that big sister was paying a trick on her? Or did she totally trust her sister, much like the little children of whom Jesus speaks?

You took such a fresh approach on the topic and it is so appreciated. I really liked the message you demonstrated and it speaks volumes. I love the idea that you can close your eyes and still taste that nectar and imagine it when you hear the words of God. So sweet!
