She gave up and turned back to the other woman who they had stumbled upon while shopping. Daniel’s gaze slowly shifted from the merchandise to the women in conversation. I will demonstrate my power, and her stupidity.
He plastered a sweet smile on his face and wrapped his arms around the strange woman's legs. Turning back to the stupid one his face twisted into fear, tears coming to his eyes. “Please help me. That woman hurts me, she hurts me so bad. Please don’t make me go with her.”
Instantly he saw his magic work, compassion and worry glazed over the stranger’s face. Too quickly the mother grabbed him. Her touch felt like fire, burning him. He screamed in agony, kicking and pulling away from her with all his strength.
The air had been stripped from his lungs. His body tensed as if the animal within was trying to escape. He was certain he was dying. Just like his last mother, this one wished him away. He no longer thought. Instinct took over, escape at all costs.
The woman gently sat on the floor of the aisle and firmly held him in her arms. Her grip was too strong for him, but he still continued to kick and scream. He knew people would be staring. Good let them stare. I hope they make her stop.
He screamed until he could scream no more. Sobs erupted from within, he no longer could fight. His body limped, giving into the woman. She held him close, softly humming.
“I love you,” she whispered, still holding him in a gentle embrace.
He could not respond, but he knew he no longer hated her.
