He read the chapters over and over again. He could not get enough of reading them. With every word he was filled with awe and wonder. The words seemed to lift off the page and into his heart and he began to experience a joy he had never felt before. Each day he sensed something new. He was not sure what it was, or what was happening, but he did not want it to stop so he continued to make his way to his special place daily to read the book.
He did not understand all of what he read, but the more he read, the more he began to understand as the words penetrated his heart. It was just a little bit at first as he struggled with some of the book’s meaning. Each night he pondered the words as he lay in bed prior to falling asleep.
More and more it became apparent to him what he must do. He wanted his life to reflect what he read. He wanted to have the joy he experienced on a constant basis instead of just during the time he read the book. He wanted to know complete peace and to know more of the love that seemed to flood his soul and consume his very being. He felt complete there in his special place.
So there in what had become his favorite and most cherished place and time, he knelt near the quiet stream and said, “Lord Jesus, come into my heart and be Lord of my life. I believe you are the Son of God and died for my sins.” He paused for a moment as if waiting for a response. He then said, “Forgive me for all my sins.” Although he heard no voice of confirmation or acceptance, he knew within himself a change had occurred. After he prayed this simple prayer, his life was never the same. Reading the Bible, the word of God, had shown him the way to salvation. He read his way to eternal life.
