As human beings we have genuine, but everyday needs that must be met, and I think as adults we take their realization for granted, (like suppers). But, if we would reflect back when life was simple, when life looked gladly forward to that which we now wearisomely expect, when all good was appreciated, and very little was undervalued, we would find ourselves enjoying the plain things of this life, and what God has given us, much more than we do. If we will recall when we were just children, we’d remember the true enjoyment found in the minimal things of this world. Solomon said, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: ….. A time to get” We tend to value the seasons of great “get,” but greatly undervalue the nominal gains. We should appreciate more the times of the commonplace “get.” Learn to rest in God, sit down and enjoy what His hands have delivered up.
As we get older, we seem to have trouble taking true pleasure in the small things, for we are so constantly wrestling with large things throughout every day. Life can be difficult, troubles are real, there is no sense in pretending otherwise, but for the child of God there is a higher hope. There will be a better tomorrow! In the small pleasant joys that would satisfy the heart, Christ wants us to think like children, “for of such is the kingdom of heaven,” and if we would, (in this life), enjoy the things of God’s eternal kingdom, we need to view it with innocent, unsullied eyes. If we would be hungry for God‘s true kingdom, our desire for this heavenly food would cause us to have that same childlike grin that came across my face as a youngster anticipating my mothers supper. For there is a far exceeding greater supper being prepared for us in eternity, and truly, “Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.” God’s own son calls, bids us, come up to His table, and sit down. Amen.
