"Hey, when do you want to go over to the beach?" I asked. Jason, Bob, Christine, Monte and I were just hanging out. The sun was starting to set over the ocean. If you've never seen the sun set over the ocean, your really missing a beautiful sight. It was July 3rd and we were all going to spend the night at the beach. Our Church has a huge get together at the beach on July 4th. The reason we were going the night before was so that we could save the best spot for everyone. There are a lot of people at the beach on the 4th of July so we want to make sure we get the best spot. We also have our yearly baptism, right there in the ocean. It's pretty cool to see.
"We'll go in a few" was the reply. I was getting impatient. I get like that a lot. It's something I'm working on. After what seems like an eternity, we pile into a couple of cars and were on our way. The sky was perfect, not a cloud to be seen, it's usually like that here in southern California. I'm not complaining but there's not a lot of variety in the wheather. Every once in a while it rains for a few days straight and once it rained for an entire week.
The traffic wasn't too bad. It can take a while to get places with all the people that live here but I guess that's one of the trade off's. When we get to the beach we stake our claim. There's just one catch, you can't fall asleep on the beach. You can spend the night there as long as you dont fall asleep. They have patrols that go up and down the beach checking on people.
Monte plays the guitar. We sing songs around a fire. People make requests and them Monte plays his guitar and we sing. Sometimes I wish I could play the guitar too.
Around 9pm I start to get sleepy. I've always been a morning person and I've always gone to bed early. My dad says he was lucky with me because he never had to fight with me to put me to bed. I stay awake though. I'm determined. The hours go by slowly. Some of the people with me start to fall asleep. The patrol guys wake them up when they come around and give them a warning. The sky is clear and I can see a lot of stars. It kind of makes you feel small when you see of those stars. God sure has made a huge universe. My attention span is really short now. I can hardly wait until morning. When I check the time it's 3 am. I hope everyone from Church appreciates this. I dont know if I can make it until the fire works start. Have you ever seen the fireworks over the harbor? It is really neat. When the sun finally comes up, I catch my second wind. After some people arrive from church, we walk over and get ourselves a bite to eat for breakfast.
The sun is hot. I borrow some sun screen because I never think to bring any myself. I dont really care much for going into the water. When I was small the ocean scared me. I'm not really scared anymore, I just dont care for it. Our pastor goes on deep sea fishing trips. Every year before the 4th of July, He goes out a catches a lot of fish and then on the 4th of July he cooks them at the beach and we all get to have some. It's around 2pm and I'm getting really tired now, I'm not sure I can make it for the fireworks.
