The bible instructs us not to hide our light under a bushel, but for me, maybe tossing a veil over it might be okay. On the other hand, my singing voice might not be a light at all. In that case, I’m in the clear.
I do love to sing. Really, who doesn’t? It’s all right to admit to me that you stand in front of your bathroom mirror belting out songs. I bet you even pretend your hairbrush is a microphone, don’t you? I promise I won’t tell a soul.
Perhaps you are blessed with a lovely singing voice. Beautiful melodies run through my head, but somewhere between my brain and my vocal chords is a serious misfire. Maybe when you sing, you don’t make your houseplants wilt like I do. One time I had a cake in the oven, and was singing at the top of my lungs. When I took the cake out, it had fallen. The center had a huge indentation that rivaled a Smokey Mountain holler. Okay, I got the picture.
The Lord instructs us to make a joyful noise unto Him. It doesn’t say you have to do it through singing, though. I am thinking about taking up making chain saw bears. Chain saws make noise. I just know I would love making them, so surely the buzz of the saws would count as a joyful noise. If I sing a few choruses of “Power in the Blood” while I fashion the bears, no one will hear me except God. Somehow I don’t think He’ll mind.
