Buddy had been in ‘quite a twit’!
While all alone on the snowy mountain, he was remembering his good friends back home. It was good to have a new friend show him around, but he missed his people at the church. He was lonely and anxious. Would he ever see his old church friends?
He didn’t realize the church was planning another snow trip with an additional surprise for the younger kids. When the school’s Conference Day arrived, the kids piled on the church van with mittens, scarves, boots and jackets and a sack lunch for everyone.
Surprised, all of the sudden, Buddy could hear it coming…shifting gears…’pedal to the metal’! The church van’s engine roared as it drove through the open gate, climbed the hill, and parked in front of the building called the ‘Warming Hut’. Everyone piled out of the van!
Buddy’s anxiety was greatly reduced, knowing his church people could come again. But, was his young, church-friend Billy on the van?
Someone opened the big double doors on the Warming Hut and everyone rushed inside. This was the first time Buddy had been in this building. What an awesome building for everyone! He learned, while the snow is one foot or more, the building stays unlocked so anyone can get out of the weather, build a fire in the big woodstove and get warm. The snowmobile people had kindling, paper, matches and wood for anyone to use. There were several huge wooden tables with benches. Wood pegs on the wall were for hanging things, and windows let in light and you could watch the outside weather and activities with people.
Buddy had to reduce his activity and stay out of sight while he was looking for his friend, Billy. While taking a sneak-peek out the window as the snowball fights and slipping and sliding began, Buddy realized some older folks were going up the mountain with a team of sled-dogs, followed by other folks on snow shoes. WOW!!! Lots of activity!!
Where was his friend? Maybe Billy’s class didn’t come on this snow trip! These kids did seem younger.
What a rush with pushing and shoving after a leader was outside announcing for everyone to come in for lunch. Everything got quiet when the eating began!
The leader said, “Some great new information is about to be announced – a Church family had bought a summer home on the mountain by the lake for church groups to use. Today is the day we can do the tour!”
Buddy could hide in a pocket, hitch a ride and learn about the new property while the kids were on tour.
Oh, WOW!!! Buddy had heard the rumor in the church office. The church staff and various visitors talked about the opportunity and were excited for the activities that could happen on the mountain at the lake. The family wanted this investment to be like a lodge or retreat for the church classes, clubs and families.
Now it was done! This tour and excitement really helped reduce Buddy’s anxiety. His people would be back!
