The years that followed were filled with so much love and laughter, that when Georgia was offered a promotion that would require her to move away, she almost refused it. Instead, they reconciled the distance by pledging unending sessions of skyping and long vacations. For the first time in their lives, distance had separated them.
Hugging the cold steel of the Urn under her arm, Georgia knew it meant, that more than distance would separate them now. Plopping down on the wet sand the heartache she’d nursed all day found its outlet.
“Georgette why didn’t you tell me?!”
Sobbing she pressed her face against the Urn as she clutched it. Even before she finished saying it, she knew what Georgettes response would be. She could hear her saying in that familiar motherly like manner, what she’d said many times before;
“In Gods’ plan, death isn’t goodbye, but rather, see you later!”
Even though she’d come to believe that, her heart still grieved greatly.
“I just don’t understand why you wouldn’t let me be there for you?”
Even as she spoke the words she knew there wouldn’t be an answer. She would have to accept as an excuse, that Georgette wanted to fight the cancer privately.
Looking out over the horizon she found the sun starting to neatly tuck itself away at the water’s edge. With warm tears pouring down her cheeks, she noticed the remnants of a rainbow that had once been obscured by the radiance of the sun. Smiling she knew her sister would have used the moment to share something insightful. How she truly loved rainbows. The last thing she’d said was;
“With the exception of the life of Christ, and the gift of the Holy Spirit, few things in the natural, speak to His love for us better, than the covenant He made with us through His Rainbow.”
Feeling a warm breeze come up around her, she pressed her face into it, welcoming it. The warmth brought with it, the first sense of peace she’d known since Georgettes death. In that moment, another of the “sayings of Georgette” came to mind;
“Don’t worry about me, GiGi. God has spoken. Now let the Church say Amen! “
Chuckling a little, she knew that’s exactly what Georgette would say. In an effort to comfort her when their parents passed away, she had said that very thing. When it didn’t bring her peace, Georgette reminded her;
“God has overcome death by showing us His plan for eternal life. All we have to do is choose Him. Mommy and Daddy chose Him and because of that we can have faith that we will see them again.”
That thought had brought her comfort back then, so what was the problem now? Closing her eyes she remembered a conversation they had a few weeks back.
“Promise me you’ll remember that sorrow tries to hide the truth from us. Remember, God always draws nearer to us when we grieve. In sorrow only speak life, never death. If that’s hard to do, place your tongue under lock and key, until you can.”
She understood now, that Georgette was preparing her for this moment. Shaking her head in affirmation she squared her shoulders before speaking;
“All heaven rejoices as you return home. I prefer you there with the Lord, than here with me.”
Gazing out to the water’s edge, she caught the faint flickering of the various colors of the rainbow as it danced across the sky. She couldn’t help but smile as she now understood, Georgettes love for it. Instinctively she lifted up an imaginary glass to toast;
“Here’s to you spending eternity with the Lord, and, to His rainbow around me…..”

I thought it was touching and had so many wonderful moments filled with the promise of eternal life through our faith.
The rainbow at the end was so inspiring and moving. It made my heart sing and smile at once!
I pray this gets notice from the judges...it moved me completely.
Thank you!
God bless~
Oh, that we might have that love for others.
