People scatter dirty laundry
Across the highway,
Craving glory,
Or a bite of fame,
Or at least a passing glance,
But they litter in vain
As their pennants fall to the ground
Unnoticed.
One person exposing his trash
Would be a spectacle,
And several
Would make a circus.
But the billions that litter the thoroughfares
Only create a dump
Of smelly garments,
Turning the highways of our modern world
Into slums of misery.
But in spite of the garbage
That pollutes these arteries,
I make my way
Through the mess,
Turning over the rubbish
To look underneath.
I have not given up
Wandering the highways,
’Cause in all this mess
I unearth jewels
Hidden beneath the junk,
As I find the moments
When you’ve revealed your heart.
Even in the ugliest of places
There is beauty
As two hearts touch,
And each
Brings a piece of heaven
To the other.
