Previous Challenge Entry (Level 1 – Beginner)
Topic: Outbreak (04/07/11)
It started in church with the man in the perch.
He rambled words nobody knew.
He preached to the crowd in a voice quite loud,
Then encouraged others to pursue.

He told them to start, let the Spirit do it’s part,
And words would just fill their voice.
That if they were true and the Savior they knew,
Another language would be their choice.

In the church I grew up this was the standard cup,
Of what was expected each week.
And if you didn’t seek of the Spirit to speak,
Your faith would be labeled as weak.

Now forty years past in my memory is cast,
In a way it is just a scar.
But maturity came in the wonderful name,
And healing brought me back to par.

Now people mean well when they cast this spell.
Wanting others to know their joy.
But though they have yearned, they really must learn,
Some people just view it a ploy.

I guess I would say for each person to pray.
And seek God’s own will for you.
For its not in a whim that foreign words will swim,
The Spirit you must pursue.

It is not for all, this rambling call,
And I’m not sure it is for today.
And is it for you, to speak as they do,
To follow in their special way?

The choice you must make whether real or fake,
The truth will be in your voice.
Be one with the Lord and in His accord,
Be real and make the right choice.

I love the pacing and rhythm of this piece. So often verse of this type fails to really tell a complete story with a beginning middle and end, but you deftly accomplished that task and in the good kind of rambling...the kind that's like a a Sunday drive down a bumpy country road - it has a style all it's own. Thanks!

I enjoyed this poem andhave had several conversations about this very topic with my son who isgoing to school to be a minister. The lighthearted poem will encourage more people to examine their beliefs. Nicely done.

I think when we get to heaven, we will find that some things we considered as so important, didn't really matter that much to God, and things we overlooked were important. Raised in the same belief, as an older, mature Christian, I see the good and the bad in it, oh, flawed and imperfect creatures that we are!. Most importantly, it is always the heart that is important to God. Such a good piece, I thoroughly enjoyed it. God bless and thanks for sharing.
