He began by telling us that he had spent a ten-hour day on a hot summer Saturday painting a room in his home. By the time he got to the “home stretch” and was applying the final coat of paint, it was past midnight.
“So there I was slapping on the paint, when I looked into my container, and was surprised to find a ladybug swimming around. Anxious to complete my work I continued to paint, but I marveled at the colors of orange with black spots juxtaposed against white paint. Each time I dipped my brush I could see that the ladybug was sinking deeper into the sea of white,” he said.
As he told us of his decision to “save the poor thing,” my friend likened the vulnerability of the tiny creature to the concept that the strong are supposed to protect the weak – that “all of us are at some time vulnerable.”
“God is in the details,” he said. “When I got up the next morning I couldn’t help but see that there was a ladybug clinging to the screen door. Was it the same one that I had released the night before? Did it remain to say ‘thank you?’ We paint our lives in a whole series of small strokes and seemingly insignificant moments. News stories carry the big milestones, but life is generally about everything that happens in between the marquee events,” he concluded.
Isn’t it true that we often come face to face with reminders of God in our lives? If only we take the time to notice.

This may be a tad off-topic; other than the fact that your friend told you the story, it's not really about a conversation.
Love the spiritual application at the end--I've never read a devotional with this illustration and application.
