We started out great. We went to the pool several times. Saw a few movies. Went the park and the beach, then we just fizzled out. I am not sure what happened. Even as I sit here and write this, the day is July 9, 2009, we are about half way through summer vacation and what are my boys doing?? One is playing on the Wii and the other is playing on his DS. Where did I go wrong? What happened to all my great plans?
But then, I remembered something. My one and only goal for the summer was to have fun with my kids and we have been doing that. So what if we don’t have an activity for everyday? The important thing is that we are spending quality time together. I had been hospitalized for almost four months last year and battled with depression. I was an absent mom. But now, I am back. I am here for my kids and no matter what we are doing, we are doing it together and these are memories that they will cherish as they grow older.
So, with about six weeks left for summer vacation, I have a new outlook. Instead of worrying about what we are going to do, I am just going to enjoy the simple things with my kids. We are going to stay up late, sleep in late and go with the flow. If that lands us in the movie theater, the bowling alley, the beach or just sitting at home chilling, I will be happy. These are years with my kids that I will never get back and I just want to enjoy every moment with them. And for them, when they grow up they will look back and remember that first summer we had together and each one after that. They will be thankful that they had a mother who loved them and wanted to be with them. I thank God that he has given me this wonderful opportunity!
