This trip took place at night and must have been a late decision as we left the quiet rural area where Dad had his sheep and cattle farm, and headed for the city, a good hour and a half away, after dark. I don’t recall what had happened to my mother but I know she was indisposed and I was to go my grandmother’s until things were back to normal.
The trip must have been a long one for Dad, but for me it was relatively short as of course I fell asleep and woke briefly on several occasions, my head on Dad’s good leg, which I was using as a pillow. I do remember sitting up and being amazed by the lights of the city and then suddenly,we were there.
In later life when I got to know my father better, I realised that he would have driven very carefully that night with his ‘precious cargo’ on board. He was always very safety conscious and spent his life caring and providing for his wife and two daughters. I am reminded of our heavenly father and our relationship to Him, when I remember the car trip- a young child in complete trust of a loving father, who was determined to provide the best care he could manage.
