I turn
But the room is empty.
I reach but peace evades
I clutch – love flees
I forgive
My mind remembers and plots
Even while I sleep.
Alone
Afraid
I wander
Under this rock, I find grief
The lights flicker and regret scurries
Into the dark corners.
In the mirror
Haunted eyes pull
Inviting me to continue
My dance of death.
A breeze flutters my hair
Behind me, in my reflection,
Nothing
But nothing reaches for me
I hear His voice
“Don’t give up.”
I turn
I face that what calls me
“Who are you?”
“I am.”
“I want to see you.”
Warmth heats my face and I close my eyes – to bask in the Son.
Dancing water sounds in the distance, the spray dots my lips.
I open my eyes again.
Light invades the room.
“Do you see Me?”
“No.”
“I hear you.
I smell you.
I feel you.”
“Open your mouth.”
Pomegranate, honey, wine quench my thirst.
I gasp. “More.”
“There is more. Come, Live, You are forgiven.”
My eyes open, my fingers reach.
Blinded until a hand grasps mine.
My finger slides, grazing a hole. That hole is mine.
My chest constricts, eyes overflow, legs give out – guilt crushes me.
His feet - I kiss them, rub with my hair
Rinse with my tears.
“Rise, Beloved. There is much to do.”
I stand, take His hand
And leave my death behind.
