The gifts that have always warmed my heart
Are the gifts which were made just for me,
It is always so exciting to find a home made gift
Nestled lovingly under our Christmas tree!
There were many years that I had no choice;
But to make things that were homespun;
And every stitch was a stitch of love
As I sewed carefully, for everyone.
Grandchildren’s eyes lit with excitement,
As they opened the stuffed animals, and such,
And, somehow, I think they were convinced
That they were loved, oh so very much!
I would have liked to give shiny gifts,
Purchased from the local, big store;
But when their little arms hugged my neck
There was nothing I treasured more!
So now, when I receive a homespun gift,
I think of all the time that was spent;
And love every stitch that is in that gift,
The sacrifice and all that it meant.
There’s been sparkling Christmas ornaments,
Carefully printed with each person’s name,
And beautiful Christmas wall-hangings
Never two gifts are quite the same.
There have been little blankets and aprons,
With prints of great-grandchildren’s hands,
A poured wax Christmas candle and poem,
That truly touched each heart-band.
A window from our grandson’s home
Pictures of each family hang there.
Whenever we look at that window
We bathe each one in prayer!
There are several paintings on my wall
Painted by our granddaughter’s hand
Many hours of wielding a paintbrush,
And we think they are all just grand!
Last Christmas there were two throw-pillows
Made painstakingly by tiny hands,
Give with so much excitement
From two of our great-grand’s!
There have been many other gifts,
Each one given with much love,
Yet the greatest Gift ever given,
Was “homespun” by God above.
That Gift is oh so precious,
And keeps giving to us each day,
It will lead each one to heaven
Who will accept Him, and obey!
