There is a God who loves me………
What a statement. The first line states two things as definite. Both of these are foundational statements that allow you to understand the rest of the song.
We are letting everyone know that there really is a God, one true God. That He is real and personal and that He loves me. If He can love me, then He can love you and He will let Himself be known to you just as personal as He has to me.
Who wraps me in his arms………
Who doesn’t like to be held once in a while? There are times when even the strongest need to feel the warmth and love of another. To feel His safety and comfort. This is what God gives us when He wraps His arms around us. He’s not holding us back or being clingy, He’s allowing us to feel His presence, His warmth, His love and His comfort. He is allowing us to touch Him.
That is the place where I'm changed………
When we have the privileged of being touched by God, there is no other course but change. If it is change from Him, it is always for the best. No one can be touched by God and not be changed, somehow, but we can choose not to follow through and let that change take hold, become permanent. This line is our way of telling Him we plan to make this permanent and we understand that it is for the best.
That is where I belong………
We realize that we belong with God, in that place where change takes effect and we are comforted and held, lovingly, through it. We also realize that there is truly nowhere else we need to be.
Take me to that place, Lord
To that secret place where
I can be with you………
As we realize that we need to be with Him, we call out, with all of our heart for Him to take us there. We realize that we are citizens of His kingdom, only travelers’ here on the way to a better place. We understand that we were meant to be with Him and we long for that. We seek Him now and we ask for His presence to carry us through this world, that we may step into the next shinning in His glory.
You can make me like you………
Finally, we realize that we are lost, full of sin and fall short of His glory. We understand that we may have been made in His image, but we have removed ourselves from it and we now long for Him to bring us back and make us like Him. We know that we are nothing without Him and we call on Him, knowing that He is quick and just and loving, knowing that He will bring us to Him and love us.
Wrap me in your arms………
Like a little child we seek Him as our father. Like a son looking up to his daddy, wanting to be held because of the comfort needed, we seek our Heavenly father.
Wrap me in your arms………
When we are stuck in darkness and we need to feel the security of another, standing with us in any situation, guiding us out of the darkness and comforting us through the fear, we seek Him to bring us into the light.
Wrap me in your arms………
Finally, like the little baby who finds rest in his fathers arms and falls asleep to the sound of his heartbeat, we seek to be held by our Father. To lay our head upon His chest so we, too, can here His heartbeat and find rest and comfort.
Yes, like a child we come to Him, seeking His arms for comfort and for security. We long to be with Him and we change when He touches us. Our world will never be the same as He draws us close to Him and allows us to bask in His presence.
